Apr 3, 4, 5 - The Comedy of House Hunting

Today is my dad’s birthday! Shoutout dad! It is hard being away from home for birthdays and other celebrations but I make sure to make lots of phone calls and messages to send my love and good wishes! I also love being videochatted into family gatherings. Today is officially my one month anniversary of moving to Australia. Tonight I got tickets with my British friend Will to see Storm Xu, the Chinese comedian. Will and I met in the funniest way- I actually walked into the wrong apartment building for house hunting… that’s a story for another time. Will is very cool and works at an Auction House. We talked about the ridiculously expensive old things that people buy and I was blown away. We saw Storm and he was funny, but used a couple of the jokes I already saw from the preview the night before which happens I suppose! Afterwards we went to rooftop bar, which has outdoor seating on these big steps and a huge cinema screen where they play movies occasionally.

Was a great time chatting and hanging out. The next day I checked out this awesome share house in St Kilda, but there were also about 15 other people seeing the same room as I was! This will be impossible to get I just know it. How it works is you go to do an inspection of the room, and then you apply for it (fill out income, your past renter information, etc) if it’s through sort of an agency, and then they get back to you if you got it. It’s really wonky though because the room is a fixed rate, and we all can offer the same amount of money – so I’m not so sure how they fairly choose who is staying there? This is definitely a worry for another day! I stayed in St Kilda and hung with Etienne, watched a movie on the beach the next day near this gorgeous cabana type building and had work at La Di Da at night.
