Sept 2-5 Various parties and Fitzroy Island

Updated: Sep 20, 2018

Today we woke up early to take a ferry to Fitzroy island. The ferry was around 45 minutes and I slept both ways. It was a very hot day out! We started off with a hike that took hours. Everyone had advised us it was an easy walk, but ended up being a rigorous uphill fight to the death between your calves and gravity. The views were gorgeous, and it circled around the top of the island. The skies and water were blue the way nature intended them to be, and we got some wonderful sun and lunch views at the top.

When we went down, we rented some snorkel equipment ($18 AUD for mask and fins) and snorkeled around the area where there were meant to be lots of sea turtles. The sea turtle was huge, and moved so slowly that I was able to touch it’s back. Don’t worry, I didn’t harm him!

The scariest thing was seeing a shark look at you in the water, but you know they won’t harm you so you should just relax and enjoy the beauty of the sea creatures! The water was pretty murky for looking so clear from above but the sea life was vibrant underneath and the coral was beautiful. Today we swam with reef sharks, stingrays, sea turtles and tons of fish! I also saw the most beautiful coral, which reminded me of a wedding design. Here are some pictures I grabbed from my gopro. After some snorkeling in a few different locations we headed to nudey beach to enjoy the magnificent beach.

a beautiful shot of susanna!

One of the last nights I was in Cairns I went with some friends to eat the Death By Chocolate, which is a super chocolatey, ice cream, mousse, brownie, amazingness dish that has about a full can of whipped cream on top of it. We split it between 4 people and were so full! I have been wanting that dessert the whole time I’ve been here, because the restaurant is right next to our hostel.

I also got to celebrate my last "Salthouse Monday" with friends and final pool party at the hostel, fun times at Woolshed and Gilligan's. Here are some pictures with some of the most fun and adventurous human beings!

thank goodness for borrowing clothes

out of control frizz here in northern queensland

Another last hoorah was throwing a big paJamie party at the hostel to celebrate with everyone. We all wore pajamas, pushed the couches and tables together for a movie, played a crazy drinking game to Austin Powers on the big projector screen, made homemade hair scrunchies and played more fun games after the movie ended. To top off the night we had brownies and tons of buttery popcorn!
