The Melbourne comedy festival just began and will be going on for a month, and I am not one to miss out on a comedy festival! I was extra keen on seeing some comedy here because in Scotland this summer I got to Edinburgh a few days after the Fringe Festival, where a ton of comedians and local musicians perform. Was so bummed I missed that. Tonight I got a ticket to see Sam Kissajukian, a Sydney based comedian whose set included stories about AA, grocery store mishaps and music festivals. His show was called "Alcohol is Good For You Too." Going to a comedy show alone is an interesting thing, especially with an audience of 25 people. The best thing to do is head for the bar because it kind of eases the nerves and makes the night flow (and the jokes a bit funnier). I didn’t want the night to end after the show, so I went to a free one-hour showcase down the road of some more comedians playing that week. We were at the oxford hotel – and I liked Storm Xu the best- a Chinese comedian from Shanghai who literally explained Chinese culture and Chinese people speaking English/fitting in in the funniest way. There is so much intelligence that goes into humor! I think I will try and see him this week. Nice to have a night out on my own, don't be afraid to do it as well.
