June 14th- 1000 steps and King Henry Arts Cafe

Today Adam picked me up to go to the 1000 steps Kokoda Memorial (The Kokoda Track is the most famous in Papa New Guinea and is known for being the location for the WWII battle between Japanese and Australian Forces in 1942- info from onlymelbourne.com.au) in the Dandenong Ranges National Park. It was about a 45 minute drive through the rolling hills of Victoria with the sun shining down baby! I had never seen this part of town before and the hills began really soon after we left the city. So crazy what is right in our own backyards. Let me say it again. So crazy what is right in our own backyards.

For the hike we were geared up ready to go and could not forget our fruit and water as extra fuel. I wore 4 layers which was overdoing it a bit. Layering never hurts though, in general! The walk extended over 3 km and was pretty steep, but damn was it nice to be out in nature again. The ground was wet but that gave the area a very fresh smell.

I have been in the city for so long that getting out to surrounding nature preserves should have been a priority a lot earlier! In my defense, it is difficult to get out there without a car for transportation. After a nice hike we went to King Henry Arts Café in Dandenong.

It was this quaint little home with ruby red walls, chandeliers and dining room tables. I had a delicious steak, Adam had cauliflower fritters with smoked salmon, and for dessert we had scones with cream and jam. WOW. No words. What a beautiful day. I didn’t want it to end.
