Today I went to work, and finished decently early for a Friday night so hit up Joel Roth (remember Joel, my savior and host family in Caulfield?), anyways I went out to Platform 1, a short distance from my work and where I am staying in Southbank to see him perform. He has all these cool costumes and performances at nightclubs and events. This time there was fire twirling, light up costumes and the big slinky. I even got to go into the slinky and perform with him! We had a blast, and I got to meet one of his partners named Vinnie. Jay was also there who is a native Illinois-an who moved to Australia! He takes photos and videos of Joel’s work for him. Anyways, this club, Platform 1, is SO cool. Here is an excerpt from their website about the venue: The Banana Alley Vaults were first constructed between 1891-1892 and were used as storage facilities by local fruit merchants to store their wares. The name “Banana Alley” came about specifically from Bananas being stored and ripened in the Vaults, before being taken to market. In the late 1980s the Vaults were put up for lease. In 2001 several extensive renovations were completed, and Vault 7 & 8 officially opened its doors as Platform One Nightclub. I’ve included a photo of the venue from google to show you! The sound system is out of this world because it is all an enclosed space. It was a long but eventful night.

Fast forward to Mother’s day on May 13 and I worked at the café. It was so cute to see all the families together but it makes me miss home, honestly! My family tradition for Mother’s Day consists of going up to Wisconsin to see my Grandma and Grandpoo and extended mom’s side of the family, and also have a BBQ at our house with my Grammy. Although I couldn’t be with them to celebrate, I was thinking of them and appreciate their presence and sacrifices in my life so that is what matters absolutely most when you are away from home! Tonight I went out to Pawn & Co for another good ol’ night out. On the way there I met Dom, who is from Sydney and was in town for the weekend. We went together to the club and the night went off! Peter joined in on our group and we were legendary all night. Will take a few days to recover from this one. Happy Mother’s Day to all!

The next day I went with James (we have been slacking on going to the gym together) to a Korean bbq! We went to a really cute little place a little outside the CBD, called Hallah. Awesome name, right? At the bbq’s there are these small hibachi cook tops but we didn’t do the meat this time. We got free starters of various salads, onions and kimchi. It was my second time eating kimchi.

The first time was in Florence in Summer 2015 when my friend Yoon, who is from South Korea, made it for me. We met on our summer study abroad program- she is the bomb! I didn’t love it but loved watching her make it and learning about Korean cuisine from her. This time, a few years later, my taste buds were ready for it again and it was a bit spicier this time. I liked it but could only have about a piece and a half. I wish I could eat more because fermented foods are so healthy for you. When I had some pH problems in my body I was instructed by the doctor to drink Kombucha, which has fermented tea in it, and it actually worked for my health! Bingo! Anyways, dinner at the Korean bbq was amazing and we even got a shot of Soju (Korean sake). I had apple and James had blueberry.

The best thing we talked about all night was the red kangaroo. It is the largest of all kanagaroos. The males can cover up to 30 feet in one leap!! What in the world! Please look these kanagaroos up, they are truly insane creatures. On the topic, I still haven’t seen kanagaroos yet but am really looking forward to it.
